Ok...I lied...it's me. crazy

Just saw the results of tonights Oscars. Ok.....of the movies nominated...I saw.....Hurt Locker and Up In The Air. I enjoyed them both. But...Hurt Locker Best Picture? I haven't even seen Avatar....but I'd say Cameron got robbed...anybody who changes the way movies are made and spends 10 years perfecting it should at least get Best Director. I mean, I don't really care either way....the oscars like all award ceremonies are a bit of joke...but still...So...Lampie...what say you?  kiss

hmmm...what say me? I thought Avatar was good, and I havent seen Hurt Locker (but Tiff says its really good)...so, I will reserve judgement on whether I thought THAT should win til then. But I already knew I didnt want Avatar to win best pcture, I mean Precious was an outstanding movie. So, out of the ones nominated and seen by me, i thought that should've won.

Best director, same story..have to wait. I will see it soon and let you know...

Agree with 2/3, totally. beer

A little rant here, the oscars are irrelevant, just a fashion, celebrity show now, back in the 60's/70's Hurt Locker would not be a movie, because that would be pre-empted, for the subject matter would have been on  the evening news and the subject of lengthy documentaries on all three ( Remember, this was BEFORE there was a Fox "news") networks - in 'prime time.'  Instead protests and impromptu calls for fixing this problem would have rang throughout the Academy Awards hall.

There are now more veterans committing suicides than is conscionable.  The veterans of recent US wars are suffering from PTSS in gross proportions.  To see this issue ignored in real time, ignored in favor of superficial issues and political fools is maddening.  To see these issues popularized and celebrated with movie honors - without corrective action for the ill - is too bizarre for me.

wow...pbw...I never looked at it like that before. i've got some food for thought....that being said, I am about the least political person there is. and I have even fewer political opinions, so, I never see a movie like hurt locker and think that way. That they are glorifying it. I always think it is important to expose non politocos like me to what is really going on. I mean i feel like if people pay attention to that stuff they already know and are voting in accordance with the change they would like to see. I do think it is sad that a bunch of people are trained to fight and kill in one setting and are supposed to leave it all there...impossible. Our bodies and minds get trained to do what gets us results. If they are conditioned to do things a certain way, they will continue. and I do think the PTSD is REAL and debilitating and a shame that more can not be done to prevent it (meaning no war at all...).

but thanks for helping me to see that people whose opinions I respect may not be the same opinions as mine...

Its that time again!!!

I think the Kings Speech will win best picture, althought the Fighter is really good too. I think Colin Firth will win best actor, Natalie Portman Best Actress, Christian Bale best supporting actor and Melissa Leo Best supporting actress....thats what I think...lets see what happens :D

inception was the best movie i saw last year. so rare is a flick that is completely original, completely inspired, and completely inspiring. that was the kind of movie that would have made me want to make movies...if i knew where the on botton was on my camcorder.

loved social network too.

but from what i hear, colin firth will win best actor.

so right Chris...very seldom does a cerebral movie like inception come along. I love the cliffhanger is it or isnt it ending....LOVE it.

I think it definately should win art direction and Visual Effects. It is also nominated for best picture, cinematography, sound (editing and mixing) and score. But I think black Swan will win for cinematography. I am unsure about score but reznor did a good job with social network.

Picture? I am still trying to see all the nominees but I dont think Inception will win even though it is a brilliant film.

colin firth (nominated for best actor...the king's speech) had a great, great year. i watched a single man starring colin. this guy is on a roll. very good movie. great performance in it as well.

or maybe the movie is from '09. yeah, just might be. still doesn't diminish the greatness of the movie...or the performance.
