Thanks for the link. The vocals were excruciating in Pinball Wizard (I nearly clicked it off, my ears were hurting) but they did get better as they went on. Who Are You was especially good. I think overall their performance succeeded. Zak doesn't seem to look anywhere as busy behind the kit as Keith though, but I did love his cymbals!

As I mentioned in the SuperBowl thread, The fabulous songs and highest rock respect salvaged the performance. Because the Who were never a "stand there and jam band," but rather a whirling, acrobatic and jumpin'-slashin theatrical band - the age factor weighed more heavily on them. They were really spry during the 2001 9-11 Concert, the drop-off from then was glaring. Long live the Who! (But it was the Saints' day)

I've always felt that putting a rock band in any halftime show was a mistake...a halftime show requires instant launch into audience engagement. Most classic rockers work best when allowed to bludgeon an audience for a couple of hours....hard to compress that into a 16 minute blast. Look at it this way: a halftime show requires that you be in mid-concert form right out of the gate....that means the audience too. It's a tall order for anyone, much less folks who are nearing 70...

I was going to comment, but mervap has said exactly what I would have posted. I saw The Who and The Clash in 82. Yeah it was pretty good!

Exactly, Mervap. Zak does a great job of honouring his Uncle Keith (and his Dad, for that matter). Pete can still play guitar. Did no one in the audience have a Ricola for Roger?

Totally agree. Still, loved the Who at halftime. Cried. Saw them in 1976 with the Dead.

Ha ha ha...I was listening from the other room (was watching kids for goodness sakes!!) and Roger did seem REALLY strained. Tiff and I looked at each other like: now he needs to stop! ;)

Conversation between Ringo Starr and Keith Moon: KM: Bloody hell, i just realized something Ring, i don't have a son to carry on me drumming legacy. You've got two, can you loan me one of yours? RS: Sure thing, Moonie! Take Zac, he's always been a fan.
