I just purchased and listened to Driving Rain for the first time. I'm still re-listening to the album to familiarize myself with it, as I'd never heard it in its entirety before owning it. What are your thoughts on this album?

As dumb as this might sound....I like just about all the track individually...but for some reason I don't like putting the cd on and playing it all the way through. I'm not sure if it's because I really like one track and then it's followed by one that I think is a bit soft or weak and my brain from past experineces with Macca's albums says to me "uh oh...here we go again".  Ok..I have issues  wink

He really does have to play more solo stuff live though....different versions of songs do, IMO give them a different life and energy.

I agree, he doesn't really try and mess with the original arrangements too much - however maybe that's a good thing. How many times have we heard this from other artists and they end up murdering their own song?

I haven't listened to Driving Rain for a while now, there are a couple of tracks I don't think I'm ever going to 'get into'.. but my opinion of the album these days is more lenient than it used to be!

I have always liked this collection of songs,, notice I didn't say album.  I pretty much agree with 2/3 on this.  I love some of the songs, some hit me when I'm in the right mood.  I think it reflects on Paul's life at the time,  many mixed experiences and emotions.  Aside from the personal stuff, he was just starting to play with Rusty and Brian and incorporating their chops into his muse and instincts.

I still maintain, had Macca wrote good lyrics to the title song, it would have been a smash, listen to the live version on BITUS!

Then, 9/11 was in the immediate background and the well intentioned "Freedom" sent mixed signals and was hi-jacked and exploited by the neo-cons.

Still haven't "mixed" my final version of this, but it's on my project list.
