Everytime i hear the term "Fifth Beatle", for some reason, Denny Laine pops into my head. His voice, to me, is the closest to Lennon's then anyone i eve heard and his songwriting is so "Beatley". He couldve played with the other Beatles besides Paul. Here's some samples, this first one from 1967 sounds just like The Beatles:

Sorry some of those didn't work. Just an added thought, just for once i'd love to hear Denny cover a Lennon solo song. His voice is so "Lennony", i cant think of any other artist who vocaly sounds closer to Lennon (except maybe his elder son, Julian, but sometimes not even that close) than Denny.
