We all have songs in the Beatle catalog that we personally feel were "passed over" or not given the recognition they deserved. Name four songs that you feel should have been A-side singles. (note : I'm relying ONLY on memory with my particular choices, hoping that none of mine were a-sides OR even placed on a single somewhere in the world)
list in order of importance to you :
1) Here, There, Everywhere 2)Little Child (The Fab should've made a longer version than the one appearing on MTB or WTB)I think it would've been a rockin' early A-side and possibly enormous hit. 3)While My Guitar Gently Weeps (maybe a slightly shorter, 1968 "radio-friendly" White Album edit) 4) You Won't See Me (hey, if Ann Murray could redo this , why didn't the original Fab version get any recognition ? I always liked this one on R. S.)It wasn't just "album filler" to me...the Beatles NEVER HAD ANY.

Good topic 3M The Beatles were cool enough, to release singles that never made it on albums....or inbetweenies I called them. I mean, was there a single from The White Album when it was orginally released? I can think of at least 4 singles just from that one. I'll have to check the singles cataloge before I post more....I have no idea what they did release as a single.

Ob La Di Ob La Da would've been a massive hit from the white album had it been released, but they didn't have to worry as the Marmalade did an admirable job of doing an excellent version that climbed the charts.
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds would be another one. And, for a third, I would pick Come And Get It. Paul's version. They could still have released it under the Beatles banner (no one had to know it was Paul playing everything hehehe).

The choices are many and, as always, endlessly debatable. Here are mine:
1 ) Good Day Sunshine- Something even the adults could like.
2 ) Hey Bulldog- One of the best riffs ever.
3 ) Back In the U.S.S.R.- A great rocker in the Beach Boys mold.
4 ) You're Going To Lose That Girl- Let's face it: these guys could have put out almost any of their songs during the first two years of their career (post Sullivan) and it would have sold in bucketloads...This one is just a personal fave.

It's amazing how different the releases went in different countries...."I Saw Her Standing There" was the b-side to "I Want To Hold Your Hand" in the US...while "This Boy" got that spot in the UK. I know that "All My Loving" had no single release stateside, but Canada may have been different.

. And, for a third, I would pick Come And Get It. Paul's version. Paul's version on Anthology 3 was just the guide demo for Badfinger's Pete Ham & Tom Evans to follow. I'll admit, Macca's version of his own composition is great also, but it forever languishes in it's "unpolished" state. It's good, but Badfinger's version is best IMO. -km

Yeah but Paul just basically made the Badfinger dudes follow his demo right down to the letter - he must have really laid down the law to them "my way or the highway" .. and well, who would argue with Paul McCartney! hehe
I like the level of production on Paul's demo - lots of reverb on the drums which gives it a 'modern' sound, I'm sure most people would hear it and wouldn't realise it's just him. All it needed were the backing vocals and Badfinger's version is just a little bit faster - I suspect Paul knew exactly what he needed to do to make this a hit for Badfinger, things he probably learned from George Martin (remember Please Please Me was originally a slowish tempo then GM asked them to try it at a faster pace and voilla... there's a hit record!).

They were on EPs in the early 60s - still 45s, but not "singles". I've got them in my collection somewhere, buried among my scratched-up Mary Hopkin 45s and early 70s Apple label Macca lol
