Yeah but Paul just basically made the Badfinger dudes follow his demo right down to the letter - he must have really laid down the law to them "my way or the highway" .. and well, who would argue with Paul McCartney! hehe

I like the level of production on Paul's demo - lots of reverb on the drums which gives it a 'modern' sound, I'm sure most people would hear it and wouldn't realise it's just him. All it needed were the backing vocals and Badfinger's version is just a little bit faster - I suspect Paul knew exactly what he needed to do to make this a hit for Badfinger, things he probably learned from George Martin (remember Please Please Me was originally a slowish tempo then GM asked them to try it at a faster pace and voilla... there's a hit record!).

you're certainly right there, Kylenz...it may have been Paul's "unpolished" demo, as I said, but your point that if Badfinger didnt follow it EXACTLY as Macca instructed, perhaps their version may have sound completely different today--maybe a vastly different tempo and arrangement...so yeah, point taken^5

You're Going To Lose That Girl- Let's face it: these guys could have put out almost any of their songs during the first two years of their career (post Sullivan) and it would have sold in bucketloads...This one is just a personal fave.

I'm so glad you mentioned this great track from Help!..always loved this Lennon tune. (least it sounds more Lennon than McCartney to me) Remember the great scene in the film where they "record" it ? (obviously a re-enactmant)--I loved the lighting on that one..which also reminds me that Apple is FINALLY releasing the official DVD of Help! later THiS month (or early November)--it'll be a two-disc thingie w/lots of extras (I'm NOT getting the OVERPRICED "deluxe" version myself, just the "standard" one --I need to maintain my image of "el cheapo of ny"(hey, the standard version also has 2 dvds, only without the pricey, uneccessary "frills") NOW IF WE CAN ONLY GET LET IT BE ON DVD WE'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE THE ENTIRE FAB FOUR FILMOLOGY FINALLY(excuse the alliteration)lol

Hard to pick just 4!!

1. It Won't Be Long
2. You Won't See Me
3. Tell Me Why
4. You're Gonna Lose That Girl

All would've been surefire #1 hits, but then again, so would have been about another 30 tunes!!

I was listening to the remastered "Yellow Submarine" and realized just how 'hittish' "Nowhere Man" is....would have made a great single!

Always loved Nowhere Man. They should have made room for it on the original YS Lp. It was certainly worthy of a second appearance in the Beatle's "main" albums...
