The McCartney folks are putting out the word on Macca websites that there is a new album coming out sometime in the future. That'all they will say.
BUT we know he has often mentioned a "Guitar concerto" album project. We know his basic range of pop/rock music and we also know he loves to do covers of old classic rock.
This brings us to our newest survey, if you could get Paul to record the album/CD you want - which would it be?
A. A soft-rock-ballad album, in the mold of Chaos +Creation.
B. An album of great, but under-heard, 50's old rock and roll songs.
C.An album of harder rock/quasi experimental music, a blend of hard Back To Egg and the last Firemen
D. That guitar concerto album
E.A very 'hooky' melodic rock-pop gem, ala Ram/Band On the Run
F. Macca covers Macca - An album of Paul's recordings of all those hits he wrote for everyone else - Come and Get It, World Without Love, Good-Bye et al.
YOU MAKE THE CALL! Feel free to pick more than one, but please rate in order of preference, if you do. Let's have fun!

Funny......as I was reading the list, I saw "C" as my top choice, but then you threw in the "Macca Covers Macca" option. I think I'd like that one, please. :)

I'm going to have to go with None of the above. Please not B. I have zero interest in hearing Paul do old songs...again. The guitar concerto would be interesting I guess. No....I think an album of covers would be good.....but the covers should be of bands or artists that slagged him off in the past. Do a killer cover of WONDERWALL...out Oasis Oasis......Do a Sting tune.........OK...forget all that....just do an album with Elvis Costello again......or somebody else....oh crap...who cares...anything new will be good. Pretend I'm not here. By the way...anyone else think this is funny? This was cut and paste from the bottom of the home page. 7699 Posts in 1140 Topics by 128 Members. I have two favorites on this.
E.A very 'hooky' melodic rock-pop gem, ala Ram/Band On the Run
F. Macca covers Macca - An album of Paul's recordings of all those hits he wrote for everyone else - Come and Get It, World Without Love, Good-Bye et al.
I would also love to hear him redo songs. Just record some of his favorite songs and put'em on there. This is how stupid I am. When Wings Greatest came out I thought he recorded the songs again. I didn't realize they would be the exact songs. Anyway...
Macca cover Macca is a cool idea plus I'd like to see him just throw in a new version of Silly Love Songs or something.

Thanks, interesting picks, comments, I can't decide yet! I'll probably multi-pick, then rank in order.
2/3 ignore? hard to when you come up with the "Paul McCartney's BRA recognition, LOL, very perceptive, like reading into those Beatle album covers, you get it - it's a hidden reference to Obla Di Obla Da, Paul Mccartney's life goes on BRA!, now was that B? C? D?....................

Well, I've come to the conclusion that unless they do a superior job to the original, artists shouldn't do cover versions - even on their own tunes. Al Jardine's latest album is a good example - there's a godawful version of 'Help Me Rhonda' on it, featuring Steve Miller and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. So, this would rule out B & F.. besides, he's already done Run Devil Run - no need to go down the 50s rock 'n roll vibe again.
When I think of Chaos, I don't think of soft rock, I think of the upbeat triumphant numbers like Fine Line, Promise To You Girl and the B-side Comfort Of Love, and the others have a dark tone to them.. not 'soft', nor your typical ballad. I don't think I would enjoy seeing Macca go down that road either (especially after seeing him rock out so hard at the Hyde Park concert this year), so that would rule out A.
A guitar concerto album would bore me to tears, so it would have to be 'goodbye to D'.
Another Ram/Band on the Run would be nice, but does he really owe us another album of that calibre? Of course it would be fantastic if he could get 'that sound' and the songs to go with it.. but is it an unrealistic wish? For that reason, E may no longer be possible in the year 2010 - but I wouldn't complain if he did happen to bring out yet another pop masterpiece!
While I think the Fireman stuff is a worthy project, I still don't think the songs are quite up to par - the songwriting side suffers when too much focus is spent on attaining a specific 'sound'. But if it was combined with a Back To The Egg harder edge then yes it would be something to look forward to. So yes, C would probably be my preferred choice!

WoW, Kyle - I'd like Paul to talk to you before recording, very interesting points, plus I agree with your more accurate description of Chaos, but we may be in the minority who think of that album and the 'up'-tempo songs.
For me, I'm concluding, it all goes to the point - What will his output of albums be in the future? A ton? Very sparingly? If he goes on a binge and releases gobs in the next 2 years - or has recorded a lot and stuffed them away for future release, soon, then I'll pick em all and in the order he should do it. If it's only one for the next several years - well put out E-hooky-melodic gem.
If he's going to go on a release binge - put them out this way:
1st: E- get on top of the music world again - but this time with a CD that is total rock-pop-ear-candy. I know he has it in him and wants it.
2nd:C- Now that he has everyone folowing him - hit hard again -go hard Egg/Fireman.
3rd: F- As people are building Macca back catalogues after those 2 releases, he reminds them of other songs he wrote back in the day and releases Macca Covers Macca.
4th + 5th: B/D Just for kicks and the Macca cult he releases the 50's rockers in a double CD along with the guitar concerto in a 2FER.
6th: Now is a good time for the Chaos style CD featuring some up-tempo strands and Driving Rain style sounds in the weave of music.
I'm in.

PW, I remember when Flowers in the Dirt came out, that was like a triumphant return to the pop/album charts with 'My Brave Face' and 'This One' both successful singles in the sweet catchy pop/rock mold. Maybe that's the kind of album you're thinking of. It was a rock album, but it also had 'the sound of 1989' stamped all over it productionwise - the next album he does should try and sound as 'current' as it possibly can. I don't mean have it full of vocoders and AutoTune, but have it sounding like a 2011 recording (whatever that is!). Maybe he could get in a new producer and different people to collaborate with. Maybe it's time for another big hit duet with somebody? :)

Paul Mccartney's life goes on BRA!, now was that B? C? D?..... I'd just like Paul to do an album that is just....very good. Not good because it's Paul and not Bad because it's Paul. It would be nice if the general consensus was...strong, not a stinker on it. He's still got it.

Good point, 2/3, that's a point I think, we all agree on - even deep down, does Paul and he is intent on doing that great album. Perhaps Nancy will be that magical muse to push him over the top.
Exactly, Kyle, concerning My Brave Face, I have been listening to that song a lot recently, as part of a project I'm working on to convey Paul has had and has the ability to do that great, popular rock-pop album and has done so, 1-3 songs per album, the past 30 years or so. When that project is complete, I'll set up a new post to share and discuss.

I find that I like the stuff people hate and hate the stuff people like. Maybe it's the worn out teenager in me, still trying to rebel.(some say I haven't grown up yet...which is true) I really like Wild Life. It has.....that quality of sound to it. Does that make any sense? It has the same vibe as McCartney..to me anyway. It's like listening to Paul McCartney screw around with a tape deck...sure some of it is dreck...but it's Paul McCartney dreck. Same thing with McCartney 2...it sure has it's WTF moments.....but it has that sound. I can't explain it I guess. Then again...Flaming Pie...I can't listen to. It has some good songs on it yeah...but...I don't know..it has too many "what were you thinking " moments on it. Driving Rain too...I like about half the tunes on it...the others make me just not to want to ever play it. Trying too hard maybe? Squeezing the bat to tight? Maybe that's it....the only song on the 2 albums I said I liked that made the radio was Coming Up...and it was the LIVE version. Maybe writing songs instead of a hit IS the way to go.
