When i listen to Lennon's bio and how he missed out on Julian because he was in The Beatles, touring, doing shows, making albums, etc. He missed out on Julian's entire childhood. It makes me wonder about Ringo. Zac and Jason was born during that time. He married Maureen about 1964, and i think Zac came along the next year. Was Ringo able to handle fatherhood while in The Beatles. Was he ever estranged from his sons because of "Beatlemania" like John was with Julian?

That's a good question. You don't really hear anything about Ringo's kids. Maybe that's because he was a decent father too them...at least in the Beatle world. Lennon was a bit of a mess, though he seemed to figure that out with Sean. Everyone has their demons I guess. Who really knows what goes on in the minds of others.

Interesting question, which , for me, raises a another interesting question - which would answer your question:
Is there a good, really good bio on Ringo's life?  What a read it would be!

The pre-Beatle years,  the Beatle years and the post Beatle years!  The music, the band, friendships, other musicians and music, the loves, the movies, the relationships with the Beatles and their families  the parties,  the booze, the sobering up, the marriages, the family and being a very cool age 70. What a life!  Greg?

I think Clayson actually wrote a second one after Straight Man, but I'm not sure I have it.  I can't imagine it's too much diff than the first.  I liked it, but it's old and isn't considered a great book.
Bill Harry's encyclo on him gives a lot of stuff, but otherwise I'm not sure about a bio along the lines of all these Paul and John books.  Shoot, even George has a few out there.

You mostly catch glimpses of Ringo's life in other books.  There will be an "insider's" book, and you'll hear an encounter with Ringo or something...or get their opinion of him.  Maybe someone else knows of one.  Am I missing the obvious here?

I'll add this question:  If his kids were young in the 70's when he was drinking a lot and globetrotting is it fair to say he was there for his kids?  On the other hand does that make him a terrible father?  He and Maureen remained on good terms, so that had to have made things better.

Thanks for the tip, Greg, that should be good enough for me on Ringo.
