2 more of my fav classic TV shows are "The Monkees" and "Monty Python's Flying Circus" I know the story behind the Monkees, even though i just can't bUy into the idea that was just aimed at preteens (sorry, that just don't wash, even wrote a post about it.) I see alot of similarities between the comedic style of The Monkees and Monty Python. I never was too impressed with David Jones though. I understand that they needed at least one british member to give that "Beatle-feel" to it. I always wondered what direction would the Monkees have gone the british member was a future Python (Monty). Who would it be? If you were to choose a Python to play a Monkee, who would you choose. I've got one in mind, but i'll wait for others to voice thier opinion.

If pressed, I would pick Michael Palin...

I was also thinking Eric for the same reason but moreso, he was also the musical Python and he doasn't have a bad singing voice, In fact his style is quite similer to David's. I can actualy hear Eric Idle singing "Daydream Believer". But add his comedic talants and ideas to the show and the Monkees wouldve taken off in a more surreal direction.

Yes, in a way it was sort of "Pythonish". I love films like that. where everything that happens is either "real" or an "illusion" and its up to the viewer to guess which one. A movie that makes you think. The TV show just lightly hinted it, "Head" SCREEEEMED it. And then after all this Monkee stuff was over...the first episode of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" premered. (Only in England until 1975, but it was still out there.) Not a coinsidence.
