Yes, MMT has all those great singles, yes YS was written for the cartoon movie, but, we're Beatle fans and are accustomed to great albums as vehicles  of original aural art.  Those albums definetely did  NOT contain  first- to- last song flowing works of musical album art.

NOT ANYMORE!

Has anyone tried this?

This?

That would be compiling the  Beatle songs on the originalYellow Submarine album with the Magical Mystery Tour original songs to form one cohesive album.  They were all recorded in about the same month/year time frame, so they are very compatible, musically, and where the Beatles were "at" - back in the day.  Here's my order - what's yours?

1.Magical Mystery Tour
2.Hey Bulldog
3.Hello Good-bye
4.Only A Northern Song
5.Fool On the Hill
6.I Am the Walrus
7.Blue Jay Way
8.All Together Now
9.Flying
10.It's All Too Much
11. Your Mother Should Know
12.Baby Your A Rich Man
13.All You Need Is Love

Quite a CD!  Without the TV deal and movie contract, this is  very well what the Album would have looked like!

They probably would have penned some brief lyrics for Ringo to sing in Flying and had George lose Northern Song from the final album edit.

Great!  Everybody agrees with my song order!

Really, I am astounded with my segues, song-to-song - they flow as if Sir George and the Beatles wrote out the track listing. : idea idea

Gee, I hope not. I think that song is cool, and it blends in nicely with the rest of the tunes. Yeah PW, that is a great list. IF they ever give us an enhanced version of MMT like they did with YS, then a mixed cd would be really great. cool

As fans of the Lads, it is hard to say that there might be a period in their career that could be called 'overlooked', but there are those who say that the two albums combined here are less 'inspired than the previous few....I've always thought that "Hey Bulldog" and "It's All Too Much" deserved a better fate than being shunted off on the soundtrack of a movie...this tracklisting would make a seriously good album.

I agree with the song flow too. And I wouldn't ditch Northern Song either, it's such a cool track.. a throwaway track but super arrangement. What I would do is pen some lyrics and get Ringo to sing on Flying. When you hear the chorus of voices on it, it almost sounds like Ringo's voice is the most prominent (well it seems that way to me).

This would've had the makings of a great album, maybe my most favourite of all. cool

!

had George lose Northern Song from the final album edit.

lol...in every Beatle site I was ever a part of, inevitably, no one ever seems to respect George's "Only A Northern Song".. *shrugs*
To me, the song has somewhat of a noble pedigree having been recorded originally for inclusion in Pepper, universally regarded as their magnum opus. Granted, it's not Hari's greatest musical moment, but lyrically (w/ it's tongue-in-cheek dig at their own publishing house), I always felt it would've whimsically fit into that classic Lp. Apparently, the powers that be (namely, Lennon/McCartney & Martin)felt otherwise. It's now regarded by some(unjustifiably)as mere "album filler" on Yellow Sub (although in the film ,the track garners a bit more respect having been "allowed" to accompany a very psychedelic Richard Avedon/Peter Max-like sequence)All in all, I feel the song has become one of George's Beatle-era orphanage-bound "kids", much like his equally disregarded "Not Guilty", whose earliest incarnation was also intended for SPLHCB, I believe (correct me if I'm in error here). The ancient version of "Guilty" can be found somewhere on our Anthology discs (cant recall offhand if it's on #2 or #3), but George's "mature" version ended up in a re-record on his '78 solo Lp "George Harrison". IMO, cool song either way.

(btw, I like your great idea of combining MMT & YS by removing the excess "fat" (i.e., Martin's symphonic pieces on YS for one thing..) It would make a super album--it needs a whole new name!!!!!
cool)

Whether or not the song existed before then, the Beatles' first attempt to record "Not Guilty" was on August 7, 1968, during sessions that were to become "The White Album". Just for accuracy's sake....you understand, MMM? grin

yes, of course. I asked for correction if I was wrong about "Guilty"--I remember now it was TWA, not Pepper, thx. I was correct about Northern Song, though.  I'm going by memory alone--too lazy at present to go look it up  laughing (but usually when it comes to the Fab--one of my favorite things in life--memory serves me correct about 99.9% of time...was slightly off this time smileys7)

Yeah, I have Northern Song in my tracking, but suspect, as they often did, 'they'=John, Paul and Mr. Martin would have un-fairly,  thumbdown nixed it.
