used to be the only pay movie channel worth anything was hbo. not because it had better movies, but because it had great, original, quality programing to go along with it's movies. it still does, but showtime has made great strides in catching up. with recent shows (dexter, the big c, weeds, united states of tara, and brotherhood) showtime has new shows every bit as good as what hbo has done. they have pushed the proverbial envelope with it's newest show, shameless. never before has a tv family been like this. and this family seems real. no cosby sweaters or cute but obvious punchlines. the father (an amazing william h macy) is a drunken bum of a man whose only goal in life is to have his next drink. he neglects his family leaving them to fend for themselves (yeah...it IS a comedy). and joan cusac plays the role that will define her career. don't just see one episode. if you have a chance, see a few. this family will grow on you like few others before.

It's not very often a show is "re-imagined" in reverse order....I mean...US to UK instead of the other way round....but if you get a chance to see Law and Order UK, you'll probably enjoy it. It's the same but different...but has a different feel being set in London.
