I just finished watching True Grit.  I don't know what all the fuss is about. Sure...it was good. It has a few really good performances too. But best picture? Hmmm?  I wouldn't go that far. I actually kind of missed John Wayne. Dang. How old am I ?   laughing
I've seen episodes of Gunsmoke that were as good as this movie. I was surprised that Matt Damons performance was so dull. I mean...in the Original, Glen Campbell was not great either...but he's not an actor. Maybe the part was written that way? I don't know.  I'll give it a 7 out of 10. Good movie...Oscar bait? Hmmm?

haven't seen it. however, i do have certain expectations when it comes to my coen brother's movies. no country for old men was awesome (although it might not qualify as a western). many say that it mirrors the book (which was critically acclaimed, as well) a lot more closely than the john wayne original.

is it wrong to admit that i've not seen the original? so...even when i do get around to seeing it (and i will) i will have no reference point or anything to compare it to.

Thx.
I might have rushed out to see this, and the problem is that movies cost so much it's crazy.  Now I'll opt for something else first.

The other thing about True Grit that was odd. Hailee Steinfeld was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. The young woman carried the whole movie and was in 99% of every scene. That was no Supporting role....if anything, she should have been nominated as Best Actress in a Lead Role.

I havent seen this one yet, but i have plans to see it before oscar night, cause i am that nerdy, and yes, i fill out a ballot. And I always want to make my best "guess", so i try to see as many of the nominated as possible.

I will let you know what I think :D
