Some of you may know this already...About a month ago, I was at work and had an accident. I was stepping over a pile of scrap steel while holding onto a railing with my left hand...unfortunately, my right foot didn't clear the pile and I pitched forward. My right knee got scraped pretty good, but I also failed to release the railing as I fell forward...this motion snapped my left inner biceps tendon rather smartly. It hurt......a lot at first. I could tell something was definitely amiss from the outset, apart from the pain. Surgery to repair this is scheduled for 6-6-11...I mention this only because I may be missing for a day or two, best case scenario. Worst case, I may be on some painkillers and my posts during that time may be a little ropey.
As of now, it doesn't hurt much, if at all.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Let us know how you're making out. Is there going to be a long-term effect from this? I'll say this; man that sounds like it hurt when it happened. You must have been in excruciating pain for hours.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Let us know how you're making out. Is there going to be a long-term effect from this? I'll say this; man that sounds like it hurt when it happened. You must have been in excruciating pain for hours. I will just paraphrase the great Rodney Dangerfield, upon going in for what I recall as heart surgery: Reporter: How long will the operation take? RD: If all goes well, about 3 hours....if it doesn't go well, it'll be a lot shorter..." In all seriousness, though, the doc says my long-term prognosis is very good with no ill effects. It did hurt a lot for about 2 hours...the nurse on the jobsite rubbed Bio-freeze on the area and iced it down, so that calmed it down a lot. Since then, any flare-ups have been handled with Advil...I actually missed only a couple of days and have been back on "light duty" since then. For about two weeks following the procedure, I will have a limited motion splint on it....after that, still on light duty until about 3 months out, when the doc says I will be good as new. I hope he's right.

Sounds like a dangerous job. Those construction sites are extremly dangerous, i always try to stay away from them. How long are you gonna be out of work? Anyrate, it might be fun to read your posts when your under medication. That reminds me of another board i'm on, they have this thread called "You can only post here when you're drunk". Maybe we should start a thread like that for you? But for the heavily medicated. Anyrate, i'll be praying for you.

sorry about the news. the joys of getting older, huh? listen, having been the victim of one of life's cruel surgeons myself recently...listen to what the doctor says. and stay off the internet. it's amazing what sort of horrible stuff you can assume is wriiten about you on-line.
as far as ropey posts...that was from painkillers? sorry, you know i can't pass up the obvious silly one.
be well, kind sir. and don't force anything. you will be better in time. promise.

Sorry to hear that, all the best.
I'm just ending some months of physiotherapy for my arm, a sprained rotator cuff. Nice to have the use mostly back again now, and the pain gone.

Well, the procedure went well and my arm is wrapped and immobile...took almost two hours. Funniest thing: they gave my arm a "nerve block" before the operation and I couldn't control it...it kept falling off my belly and into the bed rail. It's weird to look at your arm and it could be anyone's arm...couldn't feel it and certainly couldn't move it. Lc and the kids have been falling all over themselves to help me.

glad things went well. how long is before all is fine and well? it doesn't sound as if its a one week wait kind of thing. but at my age (assuming you are a couple of clicks within my age)... i know i can be impatient, expecting to be better in a matter of hours not weeks... please take it easy on yourself. too easy to fall back on bravado and do something before you're ready. your body will tell you when it's really ready.

Wise words from a wise man....I am led to understand that my full recovery will be in the neighborhood of 4 months, the splint will come off in two weeks and that I should be cleared for "no duty" work next week. I had my bravado forcibly removed about 10 years ago during a battle with my gallbladder (guess who won?"

I am glad you are doing OK Merv...it is a difficult thing when one is used to being the supporter to allow oneself to be the supported....my thoughts will stay with you for a while til we get the all OK...
Since we are talking surgeries....My brother had to be transported by ambulance first to one hospital then to University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville because he had perforated his colon on Sunday. For my brother to agree to a ambulance transport is all i needed to hear and i was preparing...truly. He is a brave, courageous, unassuming guy and would NEVER let a fuss be made unless something was truly wrong, and as it turns out it was. They did emergency surgery sunday night/monday morning to remove 6 inches of colon. I have spent quite a bit of time in Gator country the last couple of days ;)
The good news is, my brother is awake now but on morphine every 6 minutes...trust me he DOES NOT miss pressing the button!! lol He is in so much pain that it seems at 5min 59 secs he was waking up to press it...When I was at the hospital i was getting pretty good at pressing it for him so that he wouldnt wake up...i am such a drug dealer. He will have to wear the colostomy bag for about 6 months, but he is still with us. And if anyone knows me, they know he is the other side of my coin.
As my guy friends, i know that you will all cringe when i tell you he had some problems with the foley too...he had just had morphne injected and had the 6min dose too and when the nurse "stripped" the line, he was literally shaking from the excruciating pain..I was helpless and I hated it. But, i called the hospital enough today to secure that situation taken care of ;)

I'm really sorry to hear about your brother. Its hard (at least it always has been for me) to worry, I mean really worry, about a loved one. If I could carry the weight of the pain myself (which of course I can't) I would. It seems easier to go through it yourself than to go through the worry. I hate the worrying.
And from what I can tell, your brother is lucky to have you to keep an eye on him. You seem like one of the good ones, miss lampie. We should all be so lucky.
