It seems easier to go through it yourself than to go through the worry Oh, so true!

Going well, if slowly....still have the lightweight cast on. I have gone back to work with the doc's orders to not use the arm.

First off...how are you merv? hope well...
Second, a lampie brother update :D He has had to go to the ER a few times since the surgery for things that are too gross to type. But rest assured that I was frantic every time. he is back a t home now with the wound vac and all the other drain tubes off except the colostomy. That they will reverse in 5 months, if all goes according to plan. He is getting up and moving around more, and has been to see a movie too. So, I am feeling better :D y'alls prayers are working :D

So very pleased to hear your brother is doing well, Lampie....he means a lot to you, so he means a bunch to us too.
As for my arm, I begin physical therapy on the fifth of July and it should go on for about a month or so, if all goes well. Work has been very understanding about my limitations, so that's a plus...I am itching to be normal again, to not be the different guy in every group. So far, so good, but I wouldn't recommend it as a way to get out of regular work!

My father-in-law said these folks are not Physical Therapists, they are Physical Terrorists....I wouldn't go that far, but they do indeed bend you in ways that are................uncomfortable. I have gotten to within 5-10 degrees of straight with my arm and the strength is beginning to return. Doc says I can begin some "easy drumming" as part of the therapy....as soon as I figure out how to do that, I'm gonna try it!
Yeah, Ms. Lampie...how is your bro doing?

Funny thing...he happens to be standing here right now :D and says thanks for all of your words of encouragement. He needs no more nurse and no more bandage. Just the colostomy reversal in 6 months. Then he will be all healed up and haired over lol YAY!

Well here we are. My brother goes in for the colostomy reversal today and i am wide awake with insomnia at 330AM. They did all of the pre op stuff yesterday and found that they will need to remove more of the colon when reconnecting it, but i have heard this is "normal". I am trying to stay calm, but alas anxiety manifests itself in insomnia among other ways. I am, as you know, very attached to my brother. This could very well prove to be the second most devastating day of my life as the surgery is not without risks. Chances are tho, since i am not sleeping now, i will sleep right through everything. I will let yall know what happens, hopefully nothing too new worthy....

lampie, it's perfectly normal to be concerned. but (even if it is pretend) sit back with the certainty that all will be fine. it is way better (and way, way healthier) than the alternative.
funny, i've had a sick year. a foot surgery and complete, unexplained hearing loss in one ear. and the saddest part was knowing family was worried about me. i was more worried about people worrying about me than me getting better.
my thoughts are with you and your brother. stay positive.

Hey, Chris...did your hearing loss come with some dizziness? I had some of that earlier in a bout of vertigo...the dizziness only lasted a few days, but the hearing loss took a couple of months to go away.

at first there was this humming...like i was on an airplane...
then there was dizziness. extreme dizziness. couldn't stand up. couldn't lay down.
then there was this...whistle...in my head...it doubled everything i said. it didn't happen when i heard things. just when i said things.
from beginning to end it lasted about 3-4 weeks. my hearing was perfect. it made me so sad that i wouldn't hear music the same again. made an appointment with an ear/nose/throat guy. the day i was to visit him, everything got better. saw the doc. was put thru a battery of tests. nailed everything. doc said i was a lucky dude. the tests revealed i had perfect hearing. but the symptoms i had, at my age, usually meant i wasn't going to regain my hearing. whatever i had had gone away as soon as it appeared.
he told me before the tests that if he couldn't figure it out, he would tell me that i had an ear infection. he said that was doc speak for..."we don't really know what happened".

just an update...the surgery went ok. lasted a while. but he made it through. now he is having difficulty breathing and the suspect blood clots. they have done a whole new battery of tests and moved him to the heart hospital for raised surveillance. I can tell he is worried :( I am too :( But thanks to you all for prayers....they will come in handy :)
