We've tackled the vexing question of what defines Macca's screamer voice....and got LOTS of good suggestions. As Day follows Night, here is the flip side: Name Paulie's top 5 best honeyed ballads.....ladies, I want to hear from you!

Here's mine:

And I Love Her- He's just starting to get his "Ballad legs" under him...and off to a fine start!

Only Love Remains- So completely sets the scene: The party guests have gone and he's been thinking of her the whole night. Now, as the candles burn low, this is what he's been looking forward to.

My Love- A bit over-played, but there's no denying the power of this song. It's for Linda, but all ladies love it!

Long Haired Lady- Oddball pick, true, but it's like the sound of a wonderfully playful couple.

One of These Days- Achingly pretty, very melodic, quite simple.....and just right.

And a Bonus track: Little Lamb Dragonfly- Just because.

i think wanderlust is as fine a song (and just as underrated, and sadly, unheard) as he has ever done.

for no one...is nothing but excruciating pain
every night
mull of kintyre
maybe i'm amazed
here today

i guess i'll sign off on this as...christina

By the way, thank you all for helping me compile my next play list :)

it will go next to "All Paul" and "Paul Screams"....or between them actually since it's alphabetical...

How about 'Til There Was You'? I love his delivery of that song. Agree though, AILH is a great song.

Macca smoothness.. Hmmmm mine:
-Hold Me Tight
-One Of These Days
-No More Lonely Nights
-Love In Song
-So Bad
-Distractions
-At The Mercy (for 'darker' smoothness)

Very true about "Til There Was You".....I should have said "Ballad legs" as a writer.

Anyway.   On the surface, simplisitc.  But underneath....lyrically and musically complex.

huh huh :huh:never thought I'd hear that...that's one of the few songs I'm never getting tired of...

I can think of several songs that haven't been mentioned yet - "Eleanor Rigby", ,"This one", "I Owe It All to You", I don't think it's possible to choose only five, though "Maybe I'm amazed" and "Here, there and everywhere" would surely be on my list as well

Paul really is more than one person, I'm sure of it. I mean really, how can it be the same guy singing I Will, and Helter Skelter...and Honey Pie, and Why Don't We Do it...and then when you listen to Call Me Back Again on WIngs over Amercia...you, well me anyway..are just amazed that he can scream his guts out like that, and right in the middle of the song drift effortlessly into the line '' I called your name child" with that sweet voice, and then right back into screaming "No No No No No No No Never!...heard you, calling me"...man, just a brilliant vocal on that song....and many many others.

If I read Chris right, what he meant was excruciating was the subject matter....a love that should have lasted years......but didn't.

thank you, sir merv, for making the point that i should have made myself.

i love for no one, always have. i was talking to a friend recently who had just accepted the beatles as a good band. she bought revolver, and she was telling me how good a love song here there and everywhere was. i told her to listen to for no one, which was sort of a mirror image of HTAE...just sadness, pain...and want.

aaaaahhhhh...thanks....lampie drifting dreamily....

i think that too when I hear Helter Skelter and then the very next song on the white album is "I Will"...explaining to my mom:

MOM(listening and/or cringing to Helter): who is that singing?
Me: My Paul
MOM:(as I Will starts): Now, who is that singing...much better...
Me: Ummm, still my Paul :D

Same thing happened with my neice Lammie....she hated Helter Skelter, but liked I Will. But, I said it's the same person singing and the same person wrote both songs. Oh really? she said.
