I was thinking about all the HUGE acts out there....that just do nothing for me. I'm sure we all have our own list. In fact, I was thinking about how some people don't like the Beatles...and my first thought is....How can you not like the Beatles? Well, just like this I guess.

Acts I just don't give a hoot about:

Bruce Springsteen: Yes, he's a fabulous performer, and he has the lyrics to justify his greatness....but the music? Ho hum.

Bon Jovi:  Who listens to these guys? I mean...really?

Van Halen : Again, lots of fun and energy...but after 3 songs, what do you have?

Hair bands : I don't need to name any. They've all had their "Ballad", with the strings and the I love you's....yuk.

Radiohead :  Ok, this is borderline...because yeah, they are great. But please Tom, get your head out of your butt and write a melody again....and not hide it in some esoteric lyrics about Emu's.

Queen: Is it just me, or did these guys sit down and say...Hey, let's only write songs that will be a clichéd from now until the end of time. I mean, come on..We Will Rock You, We are the Champions? Sure, Lennon and McCartney said, hey let's write a pool...but Queen were trying to buy a small country.

AC/DC :  Yeah, I hear these guys Like To Rock. I heard you the first time. Now stop screaming.

The Grateful Dead: Yes I was, and thank you.

Lynard Skynard:  Geesh, how drunk do you have to be to like this stuff. Cute spelling too puke

50 cent :  huh  Is it just me but...How does a white kid driving his parents Corolla relate to this guy?

Ok, let me have it, or add to the list....it's all good :)

Bon Jovi:  Who listens to these guys? I mean...really? the girls that loved him 20 years ago, that's who...and their daughters

Van Halen : Again, lots of fun and energy...but after 3 songs, what do you have? Lots more fun and energy, of course!

Hair bands : I don't need to name any. They've all had their "Ballad", with the strings and the I love you's....yuk.agree, with a few exceptions...I like Enuff Znuff

2/3 I'm with you on The BeaTles being miles ahead of everyone.  BUT  The Dead and Springsteen are equally miles above everyone else, especially the other clowns listed.

Anyone trying the Dead, the LIVE show was eons above anything on record, including their recorded concerts.
PM me for tips to enjoy the Dead recorded treasures available. bigbeer

Now see PW, that's what I'm looking for. I've heard that about the Dead many times, but just can't "GET IT" though my thick skull, that maybe something is there if you go to a concert. Thanks for that. beer

2/3, With Jerry Garcia dead, unfortunately, that's now impossible.

If you get a chance, try Europe72 and/or Skull and Roses bigbeer

At the least, follow Jerry's lead guitar runs and the bass (Phil Lesh) and it will GET YOU! rolling

OK, here's another one:

Brian Wilson. Why does this guy get so much respect? All his songs sound the same. It's like he wrote Here, There and Everywhere, and let's say, I saw her standing there....and then just wrote dozens of versions of each song. Again, probably just me, but I don't see the genius. huh

I've heard this same refrain from folks when they find out who my favorite group is...there are things I look for in music that other people don't. It happens to everyone here, right? I think Brian Wilson gets respect for a few reasons...his music personified and idealized a whole place and time for a lot of people....California, early-mid sixties surfing boom. That's a place a those people might never go, but they feel they have been there because of the Beach Boys (among others). Also, Brian Wilson had a firmer grasp on complex musical structure than most of his contemporaries...I'll admit that he hasn't done anything approaching his Beach Boys work in many years, but I'd say that most of the accolades are deserved.

Matchbox Twenty - horrible band of sellouts - Rob Thomas's voice is... uggghhh!!!!
Lamb of God - hailed as the best metalcore band around, but I see no imagination, no flair, all their stuff really does sound the same.
Jay-Z - why oh why is he a rap legend.. he just nicks little bits and pieces from other people. And he doesn't stand out either.
U2 - when Bono started all this 'best band on the planet' hoopla, they dug their own grave. I don't mind listening to humble Irishmen, but not conceited ones.
Joni Mitchell - I've never been able to 'get' her.. the voice sounds awkward, squawky, flighty.. doesn't suit the songs.
Jaco Pastorius - most boring bass playing of all time. There's no 'attack', it's just one long technically-proficient yawn.
Mariah Carey - used to sing beautiful ballads like Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, but then decided to let rappers 'take over' her songs and she just howls ad-libs in the background in an attempt to 'stay current'. Does she actually still sing these days?
The Velvet Underground - 2 chords over and over.. poor production jobs.. where is their sense of pride?
The White Stripes - fire that useless drummer I say, and get some real musicians in!  rabid

A few likely to get me in trouble:

Smashing Pumpkins- Whiny, grating voice.

Peter Frampton- Not that I don't like Frampton at all, but the biggest selling live album ever? Framp's a fine gentleman and a dang fine axeman, but...

Led Zeppelin- A great band, some good songs and half of their albums sound like a lumberjack recorded them...why? Also, why does the classic rock station here in the ATL think I need to hear a Zep song every 15 min?

And Kyle, I'm right there with you on Floyd!

Well I'm right with you on Smashing Pumpkins - some great songs, but Billy Corgan's voice is whiny to me also. I remember when that song 'Tonight, Tonight' was a hit, I actually couldn't listen to it! His voice can sit right in behind buzzy rock songs, but sure sticks out like a sore thumb on a big ballad like that.

I agreed with everything you said kyle (even the U2 comment, and I love U2, but I don't like it when anybody "gets too big for their britches", which is probably a southern saying and may need to be explained), except:

Matchbox Twenty - horrible band of sellouts - Rob Thomas's voice is... uggghhh!!!!

I like Rob's voice...i don't hear him off key, or like a cat in a fight...what do you object to? tone?

wow...lots of great music here getting smashed that i like a lot. but hey...to each his own.

the white stripes do more with what they have than any other band on the planet.
smashing pumpkins sports a guitar sound every bit as influencial as hendrix or van halen.
pink floyd were the masters of stoner rock.
brian wilson sound was every bit as complex (but percieved as simple) as the beatles.
and radiohead has the balls to try and push the envelope by trying to do something that hasn't been done. they do not always succeed, but they have never taken a creative day off. they try something different every time out. no one since the beatles have ever attempted that.

but i have a band that makes my skin crawl...that just may have as many fans worldwide than the beatles.

i absolutely cannot stand the sound of led zepplin. rober plant's voice is as grating to me as fingernails on a chalkboard. great musicianship, i will concede that...but unless they only did instrumentals...they are of no use to me. song for song...i'd take ozzie's version of black sabbath over led zepplin every time. and mervap is right...a song on any classic rock station every 20 minutes is unforgivable. i'd rather attend the ametuer nordic yodeling semi finals.

you wont regret it, there is a lot of undiscovered talent at the amateurs...for some reason, they just don't advance.
