This article uses the release of Help! to illustrate why the era of the "rock star" is ending....very compelling.

today...marketing is everything in whether or not something sells. everything is so prefabricated. everything.

look at mccartney's last album...memory. first he releases a regular version and a delux edition. then...he re-releases a super duper delux version with a special dvd. its genius, actually.

i was never a star wars dork (my sincere apology to those who admire such a fine series of films) but i knew many. i was, however, a lord of the rings dork. i was so shockingly amazed by what i was seeing on the screen, i knew i had to have the dvd the moment it came out. but then...the extended scene version came out. i hated that i didn't have it. so i bought that too. then...all three films were released together with even more footage. this does several things. it makes those who have to see it all think about buying another version. it also reminds those who missed out the first time,...that here is another chance to see it in its entirity.

its all about getting all of the cash now.

having said that...anyone see frodo? i love that stupid little hobbit.
