we've all had these conversations before...you are stranded on an uncharted, unpopulated island. there is unexplainably all the electricity you can possibly use, as well as a working electrical outlet strangely...but happily, there is a stereo system to play the one beatle album you can choose to be stranded on this crazy island with. which would you choose...and why?

i've always been a fan of all phases of the beatles carrer. but in particular...their late phase. the decision to bring abbey road to the party was one that took about three seconds. this is the band at its finest (i realise this statement is debatable...) they played as tight, collectively, as they ever had. the album consists of their finest collection of songs. george shows he belongs, as a songwriter, to be side by side with lennon and mccartney. ringo's only drum solo (and i can argue the only truly listenable drum solo in rock history), true rock and roll vocals (paul on oh darling and john with i want you) and it all culminates with a fierce alternating guitar solo (which, with all due respect to jimi hendrix...had more to do with what guitar solos sounded like in the 70's than any other song or band)

this is my choice...and i'm sticking to it. curious how many of you agree or disagree  moon with this selection.

This topic is an evergreen, is it not? There are several equally viable choices.....my choice would have to be "Revolver". The music on this one shows a group working together, as a unit...they are all pulling in the same direction with a sense of purpose and a growing maturity that really shines through. George is really just starting to emerge from the shadow of JL and Macca, and the choice of "Taxman" for the opener is a great one. The rest of the album seems to point in the direction that all their later output would take....there is a variety previously unseen on any Beatles album.

I just gotta wonder.....when the meter reader comes to check power usage, can I hitch a ride back to the rest of my Beatles albums?

Hmmmmm..... probably Revolver. So close to call as all the late-period Beatles albums are so equally high in quality - yes, Phil Spector's Let It Be-included!  grin

reducing it to only one choice is nothing short of excruciating for die-hards like myself (plus I think only the Marque De Sade would dare torture a true Beatlemaniac with such a horrendous dilemma), but if we must make such a choice, i'd probably go w/Sgt Pepper because of it's historical significance in Beatle "mythology", and because the seamless juxtapositioning of tracks on this allegedly "non-thematic" magnum opus never fails to mystify.
