It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since that terrible day.

I was working in some guys house. He came into the room I was working in and said "you need to see this".

I spent the rest of the day on his sofa watching his tv.

I was at work in a 24 story building...when people weren't glued to the TV, they were looking out the windows, wondering if Atlanta would be a target. Seems silly now...the building is the headquarters of the biggest power company in the S.E. of the USA, but you just didn't know how widespread these events were gonna be.

I had a presentation to give that morning at 9AM. So i was preparing for that in a conference room. When the people started streaming in, it was the topic of conversation. One of the guys turned on the television to follow the coverage before our meeting. After the meeting, of course, it was all over the building...everywhere. all the radios and televisions were on nbc and the words of the commentators echoed throughout the building as none of us were saying anything at all. Just watching and listening. dumbfounded.

A couple of hours later, my friends Walter, Karen and I went to the local mexican restaurant and had two pitchers of margaritas. Our nerves were shot. And back at work, nothing was going to get done anyway.

i recall where is was. exactly. driving to work listening to sports radio. at the time, only the first plane had crashed, and it was assumed it was an accident. then...the sports dj made the announcement...another plane had crashed into the other building. we all immediately knew it was now not an accident. then the radio dj said...now back to sports...and went on as if it were just another day. i never forgave him for that. seriously.

that was without compare my worst day. and i will never forget it. i'm not a flag waiving patriot. never have been. but i have never felt more like an american on that day.

and i still cannot bear to watch these learning channel, discovery channel, science channel 10 year anniversary thingies. it still makes me unpeakably sad. maybe it always will.

It was like midnight in New Zealand and a bunch of us were flatting together down at university. We were up late doing some videogaming and a flatmate rushed in to say the World Trade Center had been hit and to turn on the tv news. So we tuned into BBC World (goes right through the night) and watched in disbelief as the 2nd plane hit and then the towers came down. We were glued to it as everything unfolded. It was crazy.

My wife had just gone out of town for a work-related thing. I was home alone with my son who was almost 2. I couldn't sleep so I got up to see what was on TV. This was around 6 am Pacific time, so I saw the whole thing. Switched to something else once my son got up, but every time he left the room I turned back to see if this was really happening. Later we went to the park and ran into some friends. All of us parents were stunned by what was going on, but the kids just carried on with their playing. The park we were at is on a float plane flight path, but it was eerily silent while we were there.

Even after 10 years it's hard to explain to the kids what happened. They're at ages (12 & 9) where they understand that it was a terrible thing that happened, but don't fully comprehend all the ramifications of the event.
