I like this album, the music and the cover. I like the idea of flying, I've had lovely dreams of flying so that appeals to me. The opening track just sounds great, the lyrics are excellent. Unlike other reviewers here I'm really glad that Paul showed some real backbone with "Looking for Changes" the images are hard hitting works well with the grungy guitar.
The samba rhythm of Hope of Deliverance is kind of camp and funny, makes a nice mood shift from the previous track.
Then followed by a pretty good collaboration with Costello.
Love the melotron into to Owe it all to You, then real cool guitar line and a pile of rich otherworldly imagery.
Biker like an icon I find endearing, one of Paul's story songs
Peace in the Neighbourhood is kind of cheesy, Paul sentimentality, but if you can't take some sentimentality then you're listening to the wrong artist. It makes me smile.
Golden Earth Girl has a simply gorgeous melody, fabulous song.
Then another song with Elvis, a bit of a sleeper but good.
Get out of My Way - OK, not too excited by this song
Winedark Open Sea - Another gorgeous dreamy song
C'mon People is a perfect final song, great pauses & sense of space, brings it all to a close.
So here I am the fan of this album, don't know that I'm a defender of this album as everyone has a right to their own opinion and i don't expect to change them, but I like this one. Flowers is great but I find it less consistent, Flaming pie is great but it does have a number of songs that annoy me. Driving Rain hasn't worked under my skin yet, Chaos and Creation & Memory almost full are both quite good.
