I've been involved with Split Enz/Crowded House, Beach Boys/Brian Wilson and Yes Discussion boards and they are all active thriving online communities.
This board has some good dialogue but it just doesn't have the numbers that those boards have. Why is that? I mean the Beatles are huge much much bigger than any of those bands, i suppose there is no chance of a reunion, maybe people feel it has all been written in countless books, but even then you can discuss what it means to YOU.
Also it seems like there are a lot of small Beatles boards, so the fan base is dispersed. Your thoughts?

I wondered about that too. You'd think, worldwide, there would be more than a mere handful of members keen to share their love for the Fab 4.
There are upsides to being on a smaller board though. People are generally friendly and respectful to eachother, there's less chance of trolls joining up just to get their jollies from riling up other members. I was on a board for Paul McCartney, and their site owner goaded me until it was impossible to post anymore. And some of their members weren't very respectful of differing opinions either, no matter how you try to justify them.
I used to be on a board for Elliott Smith, but apart from that, I don't participate on music forums anymore. There are a couple of really cool pages on Facebook I enjoy reading and posting on where they talk all kinds of music, and people post their opinions without being bullied for it. That's the sort of vibe I like. It's good to read a differing opinion, makes one aware of how different we all are. But when you get one guy come on and say things like "cmon man, are you on drugs or something?" or "you need to invest in Q-tips dude", it doesn't exactly make it a fun place to relax anymore.
I'm glad this is a place we can come and not be judged, and share our enjoyment for The Beatles, and music in general. It may not be the busiest place, but it's always there, like catching up with a dependable old friend.

I would echo Kyle's sentiments, for sure....this board was formed as a result of the same type negativity he described. Once I'd had my fill of that type of thing, this site was a natural fit. We've had some "trolls" here, but not too many, and once they saw we weren't going to rise to the bait, they left. I like all types of music, and the forums that come with it, and there are indeed bigger forums dedicated to all kinds. But you all are my friends and neighbours and I can get true, unaffected Beatles opinions here from folks whose ideas matter to me...

Thanks for the replies, I agree this is a nice place, hope I didn't give the impression that it wasn't. I don't think it'd hurt though having an extra ten regular posters though. But the comments here are worth reading, you do get a strong sense of the other posters and there are a distinct lack of trolls. So that's all good.
The Beatles are an amazing band and it is nice to have a place where you can discuss music with people who also think that.

It's a funny thing about forums like this.....like Merv and Kyle mentioned, this site was set up in the first place, to be a troll-less place to meet and greet about the Beatles and everything else..without fear of being shot down for your opinion. We've had some incredible amazing members who used to post like mad men...and it was awesome......but...it's really hard to keep that up. I wish they'd come back, but you know...people have lives(well, not me, but that's another story) . I sometimes think that maybe a troll or 2 helps move things along. I know I've tried to play the devil's advocate..but I think most people know I'm just kidding. Maybe a few pot stirrers is a good thing for forums like this? What do you folks think?

a forum with lots of people can be nice... but the likelihood you come across a crazy becomes more realistic. i am all for (i even sort of like it) reading different opinions than mine.
a small forum is like a family. and thats a nice thing to look forward to coming home to.
