crazy...just crazy. don't people know that the beatles put liverpool on the map?

only one reason i know tupelo, mississippi...that would be elvis.

only one reason i know luboc, texas...that would be buddy holly.

and there is only one reason half of the world has even heard of this small english port town!

Off topic, but I loved that Beatle pic on the news link, with John laying down on the ground. Pretty cool!

More about the Capital of Culture:

Europe's Capitals of Culture for 2008
The home of the Beatles shares the honor with a city of 'Norwegian Wood'
December 23, 2007
Every year since 1985, Europe has chosen a city to showcase its cultural life and development. In 2008, Liverpool -- home of the Beatles -- has a ticket to ride. But the English city won't be alone.

Since 2007, two cities have been chosen to reign as European Capitals of Culture. Sharing the honor next year will be Stavanger, Norway—another port city.

Theater, music, art and other cultural events will take place throughout the cities, which—as these pictures by a Tribune photographer who visited both capitals-to-be in September attest—are themselves part of the show.
