Closest thing to a Beatle album he ever put out, and he got crucified for it. I don't really get critics. They complained about his wishy washy albums. Then he puts out a album with a whole bunch of different types of music on it...screaming rockers, ballads, interesting tunes like Arrow Thru me, Baby's Request, After the Ball etc etc, and then gets dumped on for having too many ideas. Huh, you mean just like the Beatles used to do? huh On any given day, this is my top pick from him.  angel

Yeah, you can't please everyone....this is a very good album with some of Macca's best rockers on it, and a couple of nice ballady type thingies, too.

i like this album a lot. i don't know if i'd call it the closest thing he released to the beatles. but it was chock full of different kinds of music (which has always been a sort of calling card for paul, anyway...) but it did rock. and i think some wanted to see paul rock out a little more after the mellow london town. and it did have a reprise...and it did have a couple of "links" here and there...okay, maybe it was a bit like a beatle album.

Same here, this would be up near the top of the list especially if you're in the mood. The rockers are so strong, that Rockestra had a phenomenal sound, all the heavy songs on this album kick serious butt, and it flows on to the non-Rockestra songs like To You, Getting Closer, Spin It On, Old Siam Sir, and even Again and Again and Again - all have this amazing urgency and energy - which in turn flows on to the tighter funkier songs like Reception and Arrow Through Me, and then that 'passion' flows into the ballads on there such as Winter Rose / Love Awake. Winter Rose is such a beautiful eye opener of a ballad. I can't say enough about this album. When this came out, I had both the record and the tape plus the Goodnight Tonight / Daytime Nighttime Suffering 45. It's such a shame Wings disintegrated just as they were at the peak of their powers in my opinion. Guys like Laurence Juber and Steve Holly were good for Paul, Linda and Denny.

i would have liked to hear mr juber play some more songs with paul. too bad, indeed, that the band was to break up soon. this incarnation of the group never got a chance to gel.

I see this album as the Wings version of Abbey Road.  Very eclectic, great rockers, a couple medleys -- An all around fun album!!

So many of these songs remind me of songs from Abbey Road, either musically or lyrically.

Again And Again And Again = Octopus's Garden
After The Ball/Winter Rose= Golden Slumbers
Getting Closer = She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
The Broadcast = Sun King
So Glad To See You Here = The End
Daytime Nighttime Suffering = Something
Old Siam Sir = I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Arrow Through Me = Oh Darling

I haven't got this on CD, it didn't wow me, but also i just haven't seen it very often for sale. Given the opinions here and I do have nice memories of some of the songs listed, I'll have to get it.

Totally recommend it! It's going to be remastered in the next couple of years though (with a bonus DVD of the BTTE 'TV special' that came out back in 1979), so just get hold of a cheap copy for now if you can.
