It was suggested that a political discussion forum might be a good thing to add here at Let's Talk Beatles...I think that most people here respect each other enough for it to work. This type of forum has gone awry elsewhere, but I am counting on each member here to keep in mind that each poster here is a real person, with real opinions and real feelings...I would ask that everyone be as respectful as possible because of that fact. I like to think of this group as a family, and families can disagree about everything....but at the end of the day, it's still about family. Let the faint of heart beware.... wink

"we all want to change the world"

I wonder sometimes if this is a bad thing. Is minding our own business...or more specifically, tending to our own problems first...the way to go? Should we not lead by example?

it takes risk to lead by example. you risk being criticized by your own. ever watch a politician discuss a potentially dangerous topic? many give answers that do not really answer the question. know why? lets say i am a budding, aspiring politician with hopes of becoming a senator. all active members of this forum are present. and the topic of abortion comes up. do i reveal my true feelings? will doing so turn off approximately half of the crowd to whether or not they like me? or do i dance around the question? and give a well rehearsed mini non answer...hinting at what i believe in...but being fair to the other side? politics is a game. and all politicians have an agenda. all will lie to achieve what they want. but we...know this...don't we? one can even argue that an election is really to decide which is the best liar. don't get me wrong...i belong to a political party. but i have strayed...when i thought the other side would do a better job. but i am usually faithful to my party. the only thing i have true faith in (when it comes to politics) is that no one (besides me) can 100% represent me and my beliefs. i know whomever gets elected will eventually let me down in one way or another. i just have to figure out who can "most" represent me.

I whole-heartedly agree. Politics, generally speaking, is certainly within the parameters of "Beatle-speak" when we consider what an avid anti-Nixonite John was--and how he and Yoko were at the forefront of nearly every high-profile war protest of that era (even attending regularly the Watergate hearings, no doubt as a way of pouring salt into Tricky Dicky's wound, I would imagine)-which assures us that if he were alive today--and seeing the ravages of what conservative politics has done--Lennon would surely be as vehement as he once was...we wouldnt expect less of one of our major pop-heroes.

Pat, this is certainly a great inclusion to the board beer
