I'm sure by now the news about New York Gov. Elliott Spitzer's implication in a sting operation meant to snag a prostitution ring has made the rounds to you all...white-horse riding Atty. General becomes Governor on a platform of cleaning up government, only to become embroiled in a moral-issue web of deceit. The story has become a common one. My question is this: How important are a politician's private morals to you, the obviously above-average voter? Does a person's moral fibre (or lack thereof) trump their effectiveness as a public servant? If so, why? If not....why? We all watched in the last two years of Bill Clinton's presidency as he shot himself in the foot concerning his dalliances in the Oval Office with a certain intern...why do we care so much about these things? Inquiring minds want to know!
