Imagine McCartney's next tour includes a rocking opening, acoustic middle and rocking ending/finale'.

NOW- imagine that acoustic middle can be Only ONE Instrument - guitar or piano.

Think of the songs he would feature, depending on the instrument required or desired.  Think what the instrumentation would do to your heart and soul - now...........

PICK!  Your choice............acoustic..............

A. Guitar

B.Piano

Which will it be?    smileys7

I must agree with the Lady; his guitar tunes are great and he could do most of the piano stuff on guitar too.

I knew the voting would go guitar, BUT, he has done many solo acoustic songs in various concerts and tours and they are finely recorded for our pleasure.

A piano section in concert offers scintillating possibilities!  Piano would allow him to play many songs that he never has, due to their piano base - and also songs that are recorded with complexity and production - an acoustic piano treatment of these songs would make live renditions possible.  Many of these songs have not been performed and cover Beatle, Wings and Solo selections.

Check this list and see if I can change your mind?

Martha My Dear ("I once had a dog....")

Monkberry Moon Delight ("Folks, I quit this stuff in the 70's don't start now, PLEASE!...to your health!")

Your Mother Should Know ("I'll never tell!")

The Back Seat of My Car ("OK, this song tells you a lot, but please not your mother!")

Dear Boy ("Sometimes we have to talk to a friend.")

Eight Days A Week ("Back in the day, our weeks DID seem this long, we loved it and John and I had great fun  writing songs like this one!")

Tomorrow ("One day at a time folks, but.....")

Some People Never Know ("(Read all about it when you get home, pick up that literature in the lobby, support our causes!:)

The Night Before ("OK, John and I let you in to our experiences with certain , uh, women, uh...no, no, but that was in the 60's!  Not now! shush!...lol...")

Single Pigeon ("Pull out your Red Rose Speedway album when you get home...")

Venus and Mars ("I was watching you all as you came into the concert hall and was thinking ....")

Call Me Back Again ("I did a Sinatra "saloon song" a wile back and "rocked" it up, here it is, a hybred of Frank and Paul style")

Warm and Beautiful ("I heard this on the radio and loved it!  Rusty, said you wrote and sang it, let's do it next tour, so here goes!"

You Won't See Me ("A little Rubber Soul for you all....")

With A Little Luck ("I still love this song!")

Baby's Request ("Let's go back to the egg!")

The Word  ("I loved helping out John and singing on this song from ... the album is... of course Rubber Soul!  It really defines all the philosophies of George.....Ringo.....myself......and John! (prolonged standing ovation) Paul pauses, bows head on piano, then proceeds)

Only Love Remains ("This fits quite well, right now")

Golden Earth Girl ("Yes, this is for dear Linda..." (chokes up)

Yellow Submarine ("OK, sing along with me here!")

Heaven On A Sunday ("My favorite song you may not have heard...")

Try Not To Cry ("I tried...lol...")

When I'm 64 ("I had a birthday a while back")

Heather ("This was named after Linda's first child, who became my daughter....NO!....REALLY!")

A Day In The Life (Paul Piano interlude) ("OK, I had this bit for a song, John sewed it into a great song he had, here's my bit")

This never Happened Before (" From Chaos and Creation....")

Mr. Bellamy ("From the latest album, uh I forget the name, my memory must be filled or whatever!")

Baby Your A Rich Man ("Another collaberation with John")

All Together Now ("Now THIS is a sing-a-long!")

Obla Di Obla Da ("Playtex contacted me about a commercial...lol... no it's meant to be brO...lol")

Honey Pie ("Without the Beatles, I'b be singing this in the English pubs, nightly!")

Rocky Racoon (brief interlude, wordless, finishing with the up-tempo flourish)

Good Night ("John wrote this for Ringo, tonight's my chance to sing this gorgeous song!")

Maxwell's Silver Hammer (OK, time to cross the road, Abbey Road")

Oh Darling ("You know who you are!")

Why Don't We Do It In the Road ("One last piano number until we rock, this will get our engines revved!")

A lot of these songs are short, or sampler interludes, so he could start with 6 rockers and finish with 9 rockers

you have listed some of my all time favorite songs... so, yes, it tears at me...but a soft singing Paul with an acoustic guitar just gets me a little more excited ;)

Lampie;

I hope , for all Beatle fans, you get your chance to get excited soon, seeing Paul pluck the strings on stage .  I haven't heard anything new on concerts.

I enjoyed writing Paul's set list on piano and found, a piano is required for most of those un-played songs in concert.

The very odd, but nice thing when writing this, was having the "Paul comments" after the song titles seemed to be coming from somewhere else..... angel  let's hope the vibe is there!

I prefer Paul on piano, if the choice must be made (mind u, those intimate moments on his acoustic guitar are one of a kind, but it's been some time since I've heard Macca tingle the keys--a more full-bodied melodic sound, I feel)

Absolutely a fanatastic list, PB!!!! --and some GREAT parenthetical material..illuminating !(I havent thought of Monkberry Moon Delight in AGES !  laughing excellent)just about cant be topped !

Also..like you, one of the very first songs I thought of when I read this question was .."Martha My Dear" so naturally, I want that old (and nostalgic as hell for me)White Album gem to be on my dream set list too.

I'd also like some McCartney keyboard renderings on these seldom-heard treasures (if I could, that is):

Here, There, Everywhere (I think this one, one of the most beautiful in Sir Paul's voluminous songbook, translates effortlessly w/either guitar or piano--but I'd like to see Paul sing it quietly on a Steinway..would be moving)

You Gave Me The Answer (from Venus & Mars)

We All Stand Together (hopefully sung with anthemic zeal--as the perfect closer (and mandatory sing-a-long)to the "acoustic" set, this one's a natural for Paul on piano--a lá Hey Jude in feel, albeit more universal in theme)

S.T.

ah yes, Macca on kazzoo...how can I forget his virtuoso performance on Lovely Rita...maestro! bravo ! laughing

(I'm kinda glad our boys never used that thing again (although correct me if I'm wrong here)--there's nothing worse than over-use of kazzoo (except of course for an enthusiastic Christopher Walken urging "more cowbell")
