"Paperback Writer"

Not just a cleverly titled and insanely catchy single by the Beatles....not just the name of a wonderfully inventive poster here....it's also the name of a very funny book written back in 1978 by Mark Shipper. It's a self-described "spurious chronicle of the life and times of the Beatles".
Here's the premise: Mark Shipper has an exhaustive interview with Ringo Starr during which the Beatles drummer imparts the entire Beatles story to the author...on the way home to transcribe his notes, Shipper loses most of the pages of said notes and is then forced to make up the bits in between. There are snatches of truth interspersed with whole stretches of fiction...this book is not for people with only a casual interest in the Lads because the difference between the facts and the fiction is NOT notated. However, to a deeply interested fan, this book is uproariously funny because if you know their story, this one is like a bizzarro world version of it. Copies may be obtained at Amazon, though they are likely to be used. I recently got mine from Amazon and it was in excellent, almost new shape. I read a friend's copy years ago and am happily taking a trip down memory lane...I highly recommend it!
