Agree with above comments , this was a very very enjoyable, traditional summer fun movie for me.  I found out I remembered lots more about Star Trek, than I thought I would, so I  even got some of the "inside jokes."

It's now very hard to see President Obama and not see his Vulcan heritage! (LOL).

I got to see it a few nights back too. Entertaining.. all set up for further sequels. I was pleased to see Leonard Nimoy in it. I saw him in some biblical dvds not long ago (King David) and that was a bit of a shock, I didn't know he was into doing those kinds of films. I'd like to see William Shatner with a cameo in the next movie!

Karl Urban (the Kiwi!) did well, as he always seems to in these blockbuster movies - he was great in Lord of the Rings too, but like in Star Trek, is overdue for a proper leading role. They keep giving him supporting roles, yet he's way better than the likes of Russell Crowe whom I think lacks a bit of charisma / charm.

Some of the scenes looked a bit 'painted up on a computer screen' (the encounter at the beginning with Nero's ship for example) and could well look dated in a few years from now. But those little things aside, yeah it was a cool movie.
