I must say.....this story....it's almost like I wrote it myself. Spot on with my brain at least.

I agree, Two....Dave was alwats my fave, but Leno seemed to appeal to the masses more. But the masses don't always reward brilliance...

well, I used to watch Letterman religiously...he was so dangerous and sarcastic...I loved it...But did you see the Joaquin Pheonix interview?? it was painful...PAINFUL. I mean, you just dont know who is kidding who, or if they are both in on it, or...or...it was just painful. Turns out that Pheonix was being weird and Letterman started mocking him for it. I am a "mocker" (HDN reference..haha) just like anyone else, but I felt like it was in bad form. Letterman losing patience and tolerance for a weirdo...he used to be the weirdo(in this case the definition of weirdo is: one who does not follow status quo)! I dont know: my opinion.

Now, I have to say, I love Conan O'Brien. He is kind of what Letterman used to be: irreverent, self defacing and always could give a quick shot to the camera like: is this guy for real?? He would have had a laugh about weird behavior and just admitted he is just as weird and "what are you here promoting??"

I Tivo Craig Ferguson, so you know I like him. But, I like Jimmy Fallon too. But I am definately an SNL child and get him. It is not uncommon for me to be tivoing Ferguson in one room and watching Jimmy Fallon in another!! haha!!Now, I like Carson Daly and Jimmy Kimmel too...haha...OK, so I like EVERYBODY...I just don't like behavior unbecoming...and I think if you are an interviewer and you ahve begun to lose the patience it takes to be one, maybe you should move on.

I am a computer programmer and if I started hating having to look at computers everyday and deal with their quirks, it may be time for me to find another job, that's all im saying....

Yeah, I totally agree with pretty much everything you said. Though, the Joaquin thing reminded me a lot of his interview many many years ago with Crispin Glover...he was even more wierd...and I don't think that was a set up. The Joaquin thing...I am pretty sure was a joke...and maybe Dave wasn't totally sure during the segment that it was a joke. Though, at the end...when his stands up...Joaquin said thanks dave...and dave said...good job..so maybe. In either case....Dave has been a grumpy guss for too long. He's great when he likes the guest...he is really hard to watch when he seem so indifferent. I love Dave...but I wish he would at least fake being interested sometimes. How hard can it be to try and be interested for an hour each day?

This all being said....I think Conan is going to destroy him in the 11:30 slot. Dave should try harder, or just go away. His bits where he went outside  and interviewed people...or manned the drive through at McDonalds were classics...he  hasnt done anything like that in 10 years. Before he fails miserably...he should give the job to Jon Stewart....or even move up Craig...who...is really really funny.

We don't have Leno here, but we get Letterman every day. I watch him for the live bands - enjoy the alternative / indie bands on it and U2 were also on a while back. So yeah, I usually don't watch the show from start-to-finish but I try and tune in towards the end for the band performances. I think it's great that most of the time, Dave flashes a vinyl LP of the band he's promoting. Good to see vinyl still going strong.

That is a good point Kyle. There is something about that theatre....every time a band performs there, they sound amazing. Perhaps it's the fact 4 lads from Liverpool played there so many times, and it rubs off on them?  wink

I know! Quite often, I reckon these bands sound better on Letterman than they do on the studio versions! It's like there's an energy on there, once these people step on that stage, the performances can sound quite bombastic!

Another good tv show for watching live bands is the UK 'Later.. With Jools Holland'. Bands truly come to life when they play on Jools!

always been a letterman fan. he is respected more by critics...and more by his peers...than leno. but leno (at least when he was on after the news) seems to bring in higher numbers. the result of being safer, i guess. letterman always took chances. and when you do that...you may fail every now and then. but then again, once in a while, you hit it out of the park...
