i have seen three different all starr lineups. and all three have been great fun. but you should in no way compare these shows to a paul concert.

first time he did the all star thing, i saw him. this was a bonafide rock and roll concert. performed at an large outdoor music theater. while ringo was clearly the star...it had the overall feeling of an actual band. this one was by far the best. guitarist joe walsh nearly got as big a hand as ringo. and his songs rocked! the band (not the all starr band...but the band, as in the last waltz) had two players, levon helm and...(?) springsteen's clarence clemons was there. as was billy preston and dr john. and son zac starkey ( if memory serves) was there too. the kid is an exceptional drummer. it was truly an all star concert. ringo let the too much to drink croud sing along at the end in the front row. and he signed autographs at the end. great atmosphere...and lots of fun.

next time around...todd rundgren replaced joe walsh. i like todd. but it wasn't the same. the mood was different. it wasn't rock concert-y so much as a band rehearsal. overall the lineup was more of a B list. fun...but not quite the same.

last time...i decided would be the last time. there wasn't an actual rock star in the group. sheila e was the drummer (???!???) some guy from night ranger. colin haye from men at work. it was as if i was listening to a bad lite rock radio station...live. and the venues were getting smaller. he was playing small theaters now. maybe the novelty was wearing off. but maybe the shows were getting lamer.

its always cool to see a beatle. but if he is going to do this, he needs a band surrounding him to help supply some electricity. i love ringo. but he isn't a band leader. he can carry a live event only so far.

I've always wanted to see Ringo but every time I pass up the opportunity.  I just can't make myself fork over the money.  It's funny - I like a lot of his solo records, I love his personality, but I just keep telling myself, "Maybe later."  I think it's the tired format of the All-Starr Band tours - maybe there's something else he could do.  What that is I don't know. Maybe, like Chris said, a better line-up would make me fork over the money.
