It may have been us , at one time.  You know the type: Beatles fan, fan of the fabs, definitely has Band On the Run, All Things Must Pass, Imagine and R*I*N*G*O.

BUT, maybe only has  another one or two -  or none -  of the others.

For me, it started rolling with a friend reccomending Back To the Egg.  From then on I had to hear  all of Paul and John's solo albums and most of George's and a lot of Ringo's solo albums.

QUESTION: Which solo Beatle album (excepting the four obvious ones listed above)  do you MOST reccomend to the casual Beatles fan that will most 'flip' them into full fledged solo Beatle devotees?

Oh yeah....probably Back to the Egg. I mean...it's pretty close to a Beatle album in my books. It has a little bit of everything on it....it rocks...it has ballads..it has odd stuff. My brain can't figure out why it was not a big hit....or at least considered a great album and mentioned as so by critics and his peers.

I agree.

And as for the reason it's hasn't garnered more respect:  I never thought of that but totally agree now that you mention it.  Maybe it's too fractured.  Spin It On is on there, right?  Arrow Through Me?  I know he's known for being diverse, but that album maybe had no coherence.  idk.  I can't figure it out either I guess.  Maybe it was that horrific album cover (lol).  Man I hate that cover.

As for the post topic:  Ram.  My answer is always Ram.  If they are around 20 yrs old I'd tell them to check out Band On The Run or maybe just say, "Download these songs."  Monkberry Moon Delight, Helen Wheels, It Don't Come Easy, What Is Life?, Gimme Some Truth, ...

This is the moderated portion  Do I even read the posts that I reply to?  Apparently not.  PW asked for ones "not listed above".
I would go with Tug of War, too.  Maybe Sometime In NYC.

not sure if i am actually answering the question at hand...methinks the very best of all solo beatle albums would be plastic ono band. but i'm not sure that would appeal to the casual fan.

so...never mind

I was casually playing 'Press To Play' to some friends while back in my university days, and they were quite impressed. One of them couldn't believe it was even Macca, given how weird-yet-contemporary the album sounded. It may have been Good Times Coming and Talk More Talk that really took them aback. With other cool tracks as 'Pretty Little Head', the rocker 'Angry', the beautiful 'Footprints' and the sassy 'n' swaggery 'Stranglehold', there's something for everybody to like on it.

Yeah, Chris, Plastic Ono Band is historical and is certainly in the top echelon for "Art" albums.  The others mentioned, certainly have their merits.

I like to pull out Flaming Pie, everyone feels it's definitely got a Beatles "feel." (and sound)

I thought "Off the Ground" was the last great solo album from the Beatles.  "Little Lamb Dragonfly"  -- an obscure cut from "Red Rose Speedway"  -- is, to my ears, one of the great under-appreciated gems in the post-Beatles catalogue.  One of my favorite songs.  Never could figure out why it never got airplay.  Maybe because it was a little too long for a single.

Welcome aboard, Ace! I always dug "Little Lamb Dragonfly" too....you may be right about the length. Perhaps he didn't want to release two ballads in a row, as he had released "My Love" from the same album.

The McCartney/McManus stuff from Off The Ground continues to stand out. I wonder how much unreleased, but recorded stuff they have...

"under the radar", would that be the same as "Underrated"?
Anyrate as far as that goes i would think alot of George's stuff would be in that catagory, especialy "33&1/3rd". That was my first ever Beatles solo album and i loved it. "Crackerbox Palace", "This Song" and "See Yourself" are supurb!
BTW, "Back To The Egg", awsome choice! I sorta get an "Abbey Road" feeling about that album. Because one reason, you sorta get the feeling it's the last "Wings" album, when you hear it. And...i'm sorry, i totaly disagree...I LOVE THAT ALBUM COVER! Reminds me of "Star Trek". It fits the music on the album, Its hard rockin' and spacey.
