Haha, I left a comment on that link, replying to something about Lady Gaga.
I have to be honest and say I'm not a big fan of Scorsese when it comes to music films. Not a big fan of The Last Waltz, I think The Band had a couple of good songs 'The Weight' and 'Up On Cripple Creek', and not a lot else in the tank. And while the guests were legends, I didn't really dig the songs - put it this way, it would be a different story if they were up to the standard of Beatles songs! All very 'rootsy' and people just doing their thing. Dunno, maybe it's just my taste, I prefer catchy pop material to earnest folk/rock/soul stuff.
And 'Shine A Light' (the Stones blu ray) was like a ham-fisted attempt to try and recreate that 'magic' in The Last Waltz. Thing is, the film at the beginning revolved around Scorsese himself, and the Stones themselves conjured up a tired and sup-par performance, just going through the motions. I even saw Charlie Watts yawning at the end of a song! And Jagger tried to ramp up the energy but his vocal on 'As Tears Go By' was extraordinarily painful.
Scorsese as a film director on the other hand, yeah no problem. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Gooffellas, Cape Fear, The Aviator, all great films.
